Deconstructing Faith

After radical acceptance, deciding to leave the church, and redefining our own values, usually our next step is to deconstruct our faith. If you've left the church, you've probably come to the conclusion that it isn't true, however, what about your belief in God and Jesus? There's many other Christian churches out there that may be a better fit if your belief in God and Christ remain intact.

If you still believe in some type of God, but are questioning your belief in Jesus, do your research. There's plenty of historical information online and I found National Geographic, and the History Channel to be very helpful and non-biased when researching the accuracy of historical Jesus. Having accurate information (as we learned from our research of the Mormon church) widens our possibilities and allows us to make informed decisions on which path to take that correlates with our belief system.

If you find Christianity is not for you, but some type of Divinity feels right, you might consider yourself spiritual, but not religious. This opens the door to other "religions" such as Buddhism and Hinduism. I consider myself spiritual, but have not had (nor probably will ever have) the desire to join another "religion". I have found, however, learning about different "religions" is interesting, and I like to take bits and pieces from each one that feels true to me and helps me live a better life.

And finally, if you come to the conclusion that Atheism or Agnosticism is for you that is perfectly fine too! We're all on our own journey and the gift of leaving a religion behind is to be able to choose for ourselves what works for us. I feel the key is to find a belief system that helps us live our most meaningful life, while allowing us to feel peace at what lies "beyond the veil", and if for you, that means dusting the earth with your presence, than embrace it. After all, nobody really knows what happens beyond this life so we can believe what we want. My personal belief is that there's something, because of some personal experiences I've had, and It's exciting for me to think of what might lie ahead, however, others think differently which is perfectly fine. I hope everyone leaving the church embraces the freedom of a new belief system that is uniquely theirs.
